The Royal Arcade

I would unashamedly reveal to you that, until recently, I never really bothered to know or appreciate the historical architecture prevalent around Melbourne city. During my years, when I was not yet best mates with the
Gillette Mach 3 razor , I always viewed the city of Melbourne as nothing more than a shopping hub, a social hang out and
John So's not so secret lover.
However, the older and subsequently more mature Kevin, can now see that it is a city of both great historical and architectural significance.
not only epitomises this, but in addition, it's also a great place to have a stroll and see interesting specialty stores.
Acting as a hub between Bourke St Mall, Little Collins St and Elizabeth St, the
Royal Arcade is an exemplary example of classical Victorian antiquity within Melbourne. Despite coming from the Victorian era, it is unique in its design, in that it is fashioned in the beautiful Renaissance Revival style. Also, whilst you're there, don't miss the giant
Gog and Magog statues at the end of the
Royal Arcade. These statues serve as the centrepiece of the place, where conveniently at every hour, the chimes will be struck, just to remind you the end is nigh for your work break.
Other than its architecture, the
Royal Arcade will satisfy those with the shopping bug. A range of specialty stores can be found within it, ranging from stores such as
The Game Shop , with its novelty board games,
Spellbox , a place for wannabe witches (the good ones, not the bad) and
Westminster Gifts, a convenient place to buy the right gift for any anyone and any occasion.
And if you want to conclude your day comfortably within the surroundings of a café, don't give a miss to
Koko Black , a café specialising in chocolate, where you can sit, relax and drink delicious, rich chocolate drinks.
