In a city where pubs are on every second corner, this one is certainly a rose between the thorns. Coming up to Summer you appreciate a good beer garden more than most things and The Rose has one up there with the best of them. With a large wall of plants and heavy wooden tables and benches to sit on, this ad-hoc beer garden is chilled by day and awesome by night.
Their kitchen makes a pretty mean pizza, but also does salads, steaks, burgers and more. They have taken steps of late to brighten up your weeknight. Trivia
The crowd is a great blend of locals, journos, arts industry types, tradies, sports fans and die hard locals. I have had many a great night here and they mix it up – showing the early morning Aussie games, complete with bacon and eggs rolls, for the World Cup and having a dress up function event for the non-event that turned out to be election night, 2010.
On the weekend, as the DJ spins some great tunes while darkness descends, The Rose shows itself as a pub with a great local atmosphere, a well equipped selection of beers on tap and a diamond in the rough.
