The Super Moon is fast approaching Earth. Take out the children, take out the camera, have a fun evening out around Sydney in your backyard or balcony to celebrate this wonderful natural astronomical event.

This Sunday, June 23, the Super Moon will be its biggest, brightest and closest to the Earth for 2013. If you miss it, don't worry - there is another one in August 2014.

According to Timeanddate.com , the super moonrise for Sydney is expected at 4.50pm, full moon at 9.33pm, and moonset at 6.14am.

The Sydney Observatory advises that the full moon rises at a compass bearing of 101 degrees, or 114 degrees east of the true north (this being four hours and 42 minutes before it is full and four hours and 22 minutes before its closest approach).

It is recommended you find a location that provides a clear view to the east with a horizon.

Some photographers prefer to take photos during the moonset. That's when the dawn sky brightens up the surrounding environmental backdrop theme such as city skyline, mountains, ocean rocks, trees etc.

Above is a photo of a Super Moon over Münster, Germany taken 19 March 2011 to inspire those budding photographers.

Happy snapping!
