Children living in the rapidly growing 'Byford on the Scarp' estate are truly spoilt for choice. Not only is there one playground full of fun nature activities and a fantastic flying fox, but just a short walk away is yet another playground aimed at younger children.

Known as the Ridge Park and Playground, which encompasses both play spaces, the Ridge has a primarily nature-based playground with a flying fox, while the smaller playground has a cute train theme.

Byford on the Scarp is located off South Western Highyway and has a gorgeous little lake as you drive into the estate. The Ridge Park and Playground are located at the end of Clondyke Drive, where you will find a small number of parking spots.

The playground has a timber play structure with nature-themed rock climbing holds, a timber ladder and a rope ladder. My three-year-old daughter managed to get up without much trouble, but getting down the somewhat steep timber ladder proved a bit trickier and I had to go up and retrieve her, so keep an eye on adventurous toddlers!

Most of the playground focuses on nature, with plenty of log steps to climb up, along with two short stone slides, rather than big plastic ones. There is a standalone birds' nest swing, plus another swing set.

Our favourite part of the big playground was the flying fox. It has a circular seat plus a harnessed, accessible seat, which my children loved zipping back and forth in.

This part of the playground has an undercover picnic area with a public barbeque, plus a water fountain and even a tap for your dog!

Next, we went to have a look at the other part of the playground, which is aimed at pre-schoolers and toddlers. There are several, small train cubbies, plus a small play structure at the centre. The kids loved sitting in the train carriages and pretending to go for a ride.

The smaller playground also has sensory play and a birds' nest swing, plus tunnels for the kids to climb through, and picnic tables to have a rest at. The park has lots of natural shade.

There are no toilets at either park, with the closest being at fast food restaurant on South Western Highway or at the local shopping centre on Abernathy Road in Byford, which also has a couple of cafes.

If you are in the area and are looking for somewhere to take the kids for a play, the Ridge Park and Playground is an ideal spot with something for children of all ages.
