What could be better than experiencing that sense of smug satisfaction after going shopping and stumbling across a basketful of bargains?

is a discount variety store that stocks a wide range of merchandise at the lowest price points. This doesn't mean that the products are inferior or damaged, but much of their stock comes under the banner of "parellel imports". This simply means that they're genuine branded products, but they may be slightly different in design, materials and formulation and don't have the support of the official Australian Distributor. For example, ever bought a tube of Colgate toothpaste, but the only thing written in English on the packaging is "Colgate"? It's still the same toothpaste, only it's been manufactured and packaged overseas, and generally costs less than half the price you would pay in the supermarket or chemist.

A little history never goes astray. was founded in 1981 by Ron Hall and John Shuster in Melbourne. They first started selling factory seconds and discontinued lines, and within a few years had branched into direct importing of merchandise from overseas. By 2004 they had opened their 100th store nationwide and in 2009 alone they opened 30 new stores. Now, there are over 200 Reject Shops across Australia.

Some of the products that can make a big hole in your weekly shopping budget at the supermarkets are often less than half the price at Reject Shop. Everyday needs like toiletries, cosmetics, homewares and personal care products. Last week I bought my favourite shampoo and conditioner which normally retails for $8.99 each in the supermarket - for only $4 each. An 18 pack of toilet paper was only $3.95. It's the only place to buy cleaning products like washing powder and detergents. Where else would you find a box of tissues for $1?

If you have a sweet tooth, there's a large range of confectionery items incuding brand names like Red Tulip and Cadbury for less than half of what you'd pay elsewhere.

I do quite a bit of photography, some of which I like to display. I found 's large range of photo frames and albums incredibly cheap and good quality.

They stock furniture items like book cases, chairs, storage units and home decorations. It's the perfect place to pick up socks and undies, gift wrap and cards at tiny prices.

If you're a keen gardener, has all the tools and equipment you need.

In these tough economic times, it's stores like who shine above the major retail stores by supplying good quality merchandise at the lowest possible prices.

There are Reject Shops everywhere and there are more opening all the time.
