From simple tinned lentils to snazzy pasta and espresso machines, Perth institution the Re Store stocks all things Italian – and a good deal more.

Our most recent visit was prompted by the urge to make pizza from scratch.

We picked up a super-sized jar of artichokes, marinated anchovies, fresh pesto, goat's cheese, chorizo, and Molini Pizzuti Flour 00 – an excellent flour for making pizza or pasta.

was established in 1936 when John Re pawned wife Maria's engagement ring to start the continental foods business. At the two branches today, the shopping experience was all about choice;

Want rice? There's black glutinous, Spanish paella rice or porcini risotto, among other options. Oil? Needless to say they've got a large selection of olive oils, but they've also got hazelnut, walnut, avocado.

Spices? stocks not only the Italian classics but options as diverse as sumac, za'tar and mountain pepper berry.
Take a number and wait to be served in the eye-wateringly well stocked Deli section, with its array of meats.

Finish up buying some cheese and a bottle of wine or two from the diverse collection, before heading to the till.
