We're always on the lookout for an excuse to visit a cafe and The Rare Pear turned out to be a good one. The cafe is part of the Lifestyle Centre complex in The Samford Valley. As you sip your latte from beneath a Balinese thatched hut, you can gaze around at all the plants, sculptures and goodies for sale, so basically expect to be tempted.

We stocked up on a few extra Christmas presents in the boutique gifts and homewares shop and then I enjoyed a strawberry frappe and chicken and mushroom crepe for lunch. Both of which were fantastic, delicious and satisfying. After lunch, the kids played in the gated playground while we selected some native plants from the nursery. The Lifestyle Centre is a great place to visit if you're looking for anything for the garden - we loved their selection of outdoor furniture, fountains and unusual pots.
Out in the car park, we met some local horses and their happy riders on their way to "The Horse Tearoom", a horse-friendly branch of the cafe. Why not head out to Samford sometime and see for yourself?
