[ADVERT] The Rag Land is only about a month old, and is joining a sweet line-up of awesome eateries. With Milk Bar by Cafe Ish , Eathouse Diner , Crepe & Coffee Co just a stone's throw away and small bars like Dry Land Bar and Arcadia Liquors in the same vicinity, Redfern is rapidly gaining momentum. Though technically Google Maps places The Rag Land in Waterloo, it's smack bang in that mystifying triangle where Redfern, Waterloo and Alexandria meet.

I try the French toast with ricotta, mixed berry compote, caramelised bananas and golden syrup ($12), which is on the specials board. The awesome twist here is that Dave (the owner) actually used a brioche hot dog bun to make this French toast. I'm taken by the innovative flair of the dish.

What I love is that the menu offerings at The Rag Land aren't just your plain ol' bacon and egg rolls. Instead, you'll get a beautiful Asian-style pork belly and egg roll for $8 here. I'm also extremely pleased that Dave plops down a huge bottle of chilli alongside the roll. Delicious.

I also try the baked egg, which lies over a bed of white bean ragout. On the side is some toasted quinoa and soya sourdough and butter. This is a very tasty dish, and perfect for vegetable-or-legume-inclined people like me.

I also try the spicy smashed eggs with avocado on two slices of rye sourdough toast ($7.50) a few days later. There's a refreshing and delicious pesto on top, I think made of parsley and chilli. Though it's not quite as much a standout dish like the baked egg or the pork belly roll, it's still a nice, simple breakfast that I'd order again. With sandwiches that'll cost you $8.50, you're looking at a very reasonably priced cafe in this area of Sydney.

Dave is very much coffee-focused, and proudly serves The Golden Cobra coffee . I have a soy piccolo on my first visit and a soy cappuccino a couple days later. Both are excellent.

I'd even go so far as to declare the brew at The Rag Land the best coffee in Redfern now. There have been some good food and alcohol options of late, but this is the first serious coffee offering for Redfern.

The Rag Land decor is shabby chic with vintage pieces on display, which can also be purchased. So if you like anything in the cafe, ask Dave more about it. I adore the cardboard elk head over the door and the dried flowers that are assembled in a bucket on one of the tables.

Overall, The Rag Land is a cute, little cafe with nice detailing like recycled Rekorderlig bottles for your tap water. I'm sure I'll be coming back many times in the future.
