Maritime Museum right in the Heart of Brisbane Nestled within the southern end of the South Bank Parklands and situated right alongside the Goodwill Bridge is the Queensland Maritime Museum. Apart from Good Friday and the period between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, the museum is open every other day of the year.
Volunteer guides are committed to make visitors feel welcome
Trained volunteer guides are on hand to answer any query patrons may have regarding the many wonderful exhibits, or about the museum itself.
The HMAS Diamantina is the jewel in museum's crown
The museum's highlight attraction is the magnificent HMAS Diamantina – the last river class frigate in existence. The vessel has been a permanent exhibit within the South Brisbane Dry Dock since she was handed over to the Museum in 1980. The Diamantina offers displays that fully disclose the ship's history and its importance - especially to naval operations in the Pacific during World War II. Its role as a permanent exhibit within the Queensland Maritime Museum is a fitting tribute to all who served onboard the frigate over its four-decade lifespan.
Maritime welcomes new addition The newest addition to the museum is the Pink Lady, the yacht in which teenage sailor Jessica Watson completed her successful record-setting solo voyage around the world.
