The Producers is a world-renowned musical stage show, based off the 1968 Mel Brooks film of the same name. The show ran on Broadway from 2001-2007 and proved extremely successful. Now Blue Fish Theatrical is bringing The Producers to Brisbane!

The Producers is about a Broadway producer, Max Bialystock, whose latest show has proved a massive flop. Max takes it badly, withdrawing to the depths of his lonely apartment to wallow in his own misery. As luck would have it, his new accountant, Leopold Bloom, takes a look at his books and discovers something quite remarkable, something that Max is very interested in. A Broadway flop can make a producer more money than a success. After some hustle and bustle, Max and Leo – who has a secret dream to become a Broadway producer – set out to find the worst play ever written. They eventually settle on a play called 'Springtime for Hitler', which, coupled with the efforts of their self-picked "worst director of all time", they believe will be a sure-fire disaster and a guaranteed flop. However, things are about to take a surprising turn for the two wannabe millionaires.

Showing at the magnificent Schonell theatre in St Lucia, The Producers is a wonderful, three hour extravaganza, complete with singing, dancing (regular and tap), and comedy.

The cast is outstanding, particularly Gary Rose, who plays Max – his accent, inflection, and comic timing are all spot on. Tony Campbell, a QUT graduate, is also great as Leo. And the gorgeous Kimberly Chapman is ever seductive and charming as Ulla, the Swedish receptionist/actress. The ensemble cast is amazing also; how they are able to change costumes that many times, that quickly, I'll never know.

All credit to the live orchestra as well, whose musical score was flawless and made the show so much more appetising.

The show really has everything. Awesome, large-scale tap dance scenes; a group of singing and dancing Hitlers; and a hilarious number consisting of little old ladies and their indispensable steel-frame walkers.

The Producers is running until the 19th of November, so hurry over tohttp://www.bluefishtheatrical.com.au and book your ticket now, otherwise they will all be gone before you can say blueberry pie.
