Ever wanted to learn Pottery, but wonder if it's all just a little too difficult?

Well, Joseph Darling founder of The Pottery shed runs lessons and sessions in Sydney's beautiful Paddington area and wants to help you learn how to Throw, Trim and Glaze, in three 2hr sessions.

Each class only allows 4-6 students so you really get hands on treatment and is held in a beautifully restored garage at Lowroad, 76 Oxford Street, Paddington, NSW. Along the Darlinghurst side of Paddington, near Woolies Wheels and Ampersand Books. They are at the bottom of the pedestrian stairs.

Each beginners class is 2 hours long and uses simple techniques which, apparently, beginners find easier to remember. The techniques are broken down into three major steps written on large illustrated boards and the 3 core lessons are repeated over and over.

Students can mix and match available classes around busy lives and daily jobs. Whether you see yourself as trying it out and never doing it again or ending up working in clay professionally this is the course for you.

I know I've 'Always' wanted to 'do it' but either not known where, or how, or just never gotten round to it. So… if you're like me, curious and interested in seeing if you 'can do it' to any great success or just enjoy it as much as you hope you will, book a class online.

Everything is included in the cost of the class.

Material, training, earthenware clay, the equipment and the firing.

There are six electric wheels (Australian made Venco wheels to be specific) of which there are dual handed (for right or left handed ladies and gents). Natural wood and sponge hand tools are also provided.

uses high quality glazes and all firing happens on site.

Once you're up and running and producing your own pieces there's also an affordable high-firing service for porcelain and stoneware available by arrangement on site.

There's even a chilled wine and beer stocked bar, apple AirPlay speakers so you can use your own iPhone to play music and Mid-West American Pottery training videos are available. Printed books on a selection of techniques can even be borrowed.

Classes are held Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings and evenings. You can check out availability and book online you can also pay at the studio in cash or pre-pay online (credit card surcharge applies).

The first three classes are $45, all materials are included. Casual sessions afterwards are £35 or $30 when pre-paid vouchers are used. Children from 7years are welcome when accompanied by adult.

Remember to wear comfortable clothes so you can wrap your legs around the wheel (not literally, but you know what I mean), trim your nails and bring a hair tie to tie up those pony tails if you have long hair.

This course is a great idea for an experiential Christmas present. (Which lasts a lifetime and gift vouchers are available).

Aren't you pleased with me?!!! I've booked three sessions already and written this whole review without mentioning Ghost, Demi Moore or Patrick Swayze once….ooops, sorry... couldn't resist...!
