An ambitious movie of three 'acts', The Place Beyond The Pines stars Ryan Gosling as Luke, a motorcycle stunt rider with a traveling carnival. Whilst passing through the small town of Schenectady, New York, he discovers he has a son by previous girlfriend Romina (Eva Mendez). Luke quits his transient job and stays in an effort to reconcile with Eva and get to know his son.

Unfortunately Luke makes the fateful decision to break the law as a way of providing for his family. This puts him on a collision course with ambitious cop Avery (excellently played by Bradley Cooper) eager to rise up the ranks in a corrupt police department.

The outcome has a devastating effect on all the families involved and future generations, as two teenage boys grapple with the legacy they've inherited. This tense drama is popular with critics and audiences alike. This gripping tale of family, fatherhood and fate is bolstered by strong performances of all the cast. Also stars Ben Mendelsohn and Ray Liotta. 4 out of 5 stars.
