If you're looking for a stunning spot in the CBD with a bit of history, then the Pioneer Women's Memorial Gardens may be the perfect spot. The lush green gardens are hidden behind Government House, and they provide a relaxing spot to escape the city buzz that surrounds them.

You'll find the gardens if you're walking down either Kintore Ave or King William Road, they are tucked between Elder Park and Adelaide University, and Government House and the Torrens' Parade Grounds. They are in a central location, but hidden by so many other well known locations that they can sometimes be forgotten. This is great for those wanting to head here to relax, because they are often quite a peaceful spot.

The gardens feature sloping grass, with sideways leaning palm trees that are very striking to the eye. This is a great spot for the kids to run around and roll down hills, or a lovely spot to lie on the grass. There is plenty of space to set up a picnic, and you'll enjoy your surroundings as you do so. The walking path that connects Frome and King William Road also features some memorials and dedications that can be an interesting read.

The main memorial of the gardens is the one for the pioneer women, of whom the garden is named after. This womanly statue sits in the centre of a sectioned off garden and bears and inscription dedicating the garden to South Australia's pioneer women from 1936. It is a lovely statue and sits in a garden that would be the perfect place to sit down and read a book.

The garden is known as a good spot for both readers and writers, and has played host to the Adelaide Writers' Week . The large area is a perfect spot for the many panels to discuss literary work in an area that could inspire many stories.

This is a quiet garden that does not feature toilet or barbecue facilities, or a playground. It is a place to take the kids if they want to run around, or to just sit back and enjoy the scenery.
