After coming up more than once in conversation, we decided to try in Kangaroo Point. After a leisurely stroll along the Kangaroo Point cliffs, we walked the few short blocks over to the hotel. It was recommended to us as a great place for a family meal or for a few drinks with friends. We chose the former.

The Piney, as it is affectionately known, was established in 1864 and is heritage listed. One of the oldest hotels in Queensland, it got its name from the pineapple plantations scattered around Kangaroo Point in the early 1900s. It has passed through a few hands since 1864 and has been lovingly "restored, renovated and restyled" to what it is today.

The Pineapple is actually several restaurants and bars in the one building. We ate in the Steak House overlooking a children's playground. The play area is well-equipped with a climbing gym, chalkboards and a wooden train set. All children receive a little paper activity bag full of crayons, stickers, and games. The kids menu is fairly extensive with things like homemade chicken nuggets and chips, tempura fish and chips, ham and pineapple pizza, chicken parmigiana and my daughter's favourite – roast of the day. Kids can get their faces painted every Saturday and Sunday during lunch.

The Steak House also has a glasshouse beer garden overlooking the playground and Raymond Park. The other bars include: The Park Bar, a trendy, modern bar overlooking Raymond Park and Baines Street and The 5th Quarter Lounge and Sports Bars - self-explanatory.

also caters for functions including children's parties. The Plantation Room, located upstairs, is a series of split levels featuring outdoor verandas and a polished wooden deck.

The parking lot is located off Main Street and there is also a bottle-shop on site.
