The Perfect Dinner - Film Review (ST. ALi Italian Film Festival 2022)
The Perfect Dinner is screening (Australian premiere) during the 2022 Italian Film Festival in Palace Cinemas across Australia between the 13th of September and the 16th of October this year. The 106 minute Italian language (English subtitles) film is based on a story by
Stefano Sardo.
The romantic comedy stars
Salvatore Esposito as
Carmine (the reluctant mafioso) and
Greta Scarano as failed chef
Consuelo. Carmine is sent from Naples to Rome (for his own protection) by crime boss
Pasquale (
Gianfranco Gallo) to run a money laundering business out of a failed restaurant. The kitchen is basically non-existent and the food consists of microwaved pre packaged meals. The disgruntled previous chef/owner
Consuelo is disgusted by the food served and her passion piques Carmine's interest. He offers her a job and she rekindles her dream of good reviews and a Michelin star. They develop a love/hate relationship but share a love of good food and
Carmine teaches
Consuelo that simple can be delicious as long as it is from the heart and has a story.
Food is the other star of the movie with the cooking sequences carefully choreographed by Michelin starred chef Christina Bowerman. There are also elements of drama, action and suspense related to the good hearted Carmine's involvement with the Neapolitan mafia.
The Perfect Dinner is a heartwarming and fun movie perfect for date night or a girl's day out.
