Kingaroy - Australia's Peanut Capital
Winter in Queensland's South Burnett means one thing - peanuts. One only has to take a drive through downtown Kingaroy to be engulfed by the delicious smell of freshly roasting peanuts. But for an even more scrumptious experience, a visit to The Peanut Van is a must.
Locals and visitors alike are encouraged to try a free sample from the over 20 different flavours of peanuts available. From the plain and natural to the savoury and spicy, the Peanut Van has a little of everything. Even those of us with a sweet tooth are catered for with ginger and honey, butterscotch and caramel flavoured peanuts. And who could resist some chocolate coated peanuts or a good old fashioned peanut brittle?
Cashews and mixed nuts are also available and if decision making is not your strong point, a sample bag might just be the ticket. They also make excellent gift ideas for family and friends living interstate.
Be prepared to spend a little time there though, as more often than not some lively chatter arises as locals mix with visitors to our fair town, and travel information is often exchanged. You never know who you might find standing outside the Peanut Van or from where in this great world they may have hailed from.
Kingaroy peanuts are not inexpensive, but let me assure you that you get what you pay for. Locally grown, harvested and processed to perfection, they are a quality product and you will pay for that quality.
Let me assure you, if addiction becomes a problem, and it may well, The Peanut Van offers an online and over the phone order service, as well as making personal appearances at market stalls all over South East Queensland, including Queen Street Mall Market in Brisbane and Toowoomba.
