Unless you were looking for it, it would be pretty easy to miss The Pantry. Tucked away in Hawthorn's suburban streets lies this homely cafe. It has a little bit of country deli, trendy cafe, and 50s milk bar all rolled into one neat package. These guys serve up tasty breakfast or lunch from 8am-5pm daily, but also have some special treats up their sleeves when it comes to dinner.
The Pantry is a real cosy place to grab something to eat or drink. There are a couple of tables outside on the footpath that are perfect for soaking up some afternoon sun, and inside small eclectic tables with mismatched chairs welcome patrons. If you're waiting for a table, or for a coffee to go, there are also some comfy arm chairs at your disposal. The kids will love breakfast or lunch at the Pantry, because they can stare out the large glass window and watch all the trains from the Belair line pass by. Adults will enjoy browsing the art displayed on the walls.
You can get all of your usuals at The Pantry. From eggs, to muesli, to toast, but there are some stand out menu options to choose from. The bespoke breakfast allows you to choose how you want your eggs, along with any sides, so you can tailor make your morning meal. There are also delectable toasted waffles with blackberry butter and maple syrup, or you can choose from banana bread, fruit salad, or a salmon bagel.
At lunch you can enjoy a bread plate that includes sour dough and Lebanese bread, with dukkah, garlic aioli, hummus and mango chutney, or choose from one of the burgers for something a bit bigger. The lunch menu is quite unique, featuring rabbit pot pie or a lentil salad, and there are also a range of quiches, cakes, and tarts to choose from. You can eat in, or take some away for later.
