Considered one of the greatest novels of the 19th century, Les Misérables by French poet and novelist Victor Hugo has been made ever more popular around the world through a blockbuster stage musical based on the novel of the same name. While many have read the book and enjoyed the theatrical production, the State Library has managed to take us one step deeper. Exclusive to the Library, the "Page to Stage" exhibition takes visitors into the novel and the musical through an extraordinary collection of rare items from the collections of the Bibliothèque nationale de France, Maison de Victor Hugo, Musée Rodin, Cameron Mackintosh Archive etc. The exhibition has also been timed to coincide with the arrival of Cameron Mackintosh's acclaimed new production of Boublil and Schönberg's Les Misérables in Melbourne in July 2014.
