I'm a freelance writer living in the beautiful river town of Mannum in South Australia dreaming of the day I can retire from the 9-5 to write full-time.

This is what award-winning food tastes like
Tracey (left) and Wendy (right) welcome you to the Original Food Company Bakery/Cafe
This lovely little bakery and cafe situated in the main street of Littlehampton is light, bright and cheerful. I called in for a coffee and the first thing to draw my attention – besides the lovely clean lines and smiling staff – was the wall of awards, of which they're obviously very proud. They have won numerous prizes for the high quality of their products in a broad variety of categories and attribute their success to the experience and dedication of their bakers.
A wall of awards
The building itself was a former residence and still retains the charming exterior, but the inside is modern and functional. The bakery has been in operation since 2006.

There are plenty of signs and display cases showing what is on offer and a menu on each table with lots of delicious choices including bacon and eggs, toasted sandwiches, foccacias, cold meat and salad plates, waffles and banana bread.
I settled for just a coffee on this occasion and it came out hot and frothy – just the way I like it.
I had the pleasure of engaging with a customer there who told me he is a regular visitor to the cafe because of the friendly staff and the good range. He especially enjoys their warming soups in the winter.

The cafe is open 8am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 3pm on Saturdays and 9.30am to 2.30pm on Sundays.
Manager Deb also has a sister site at Mount Barker and a lunch bar at Totness, all with the same high quality and attention to first-class customer service. Unfortunately on this occasion I didn't have time to check out the other sites but they are definitely on my 'to do' list.
