The delightful ballet The Nutcracker will open on the 28th of November and run until the 17th of December at the Sydney Opera house.
This is a magical christmas story which opens on Christmas night.
It is performed to Tchaikovsky's wonderful musical score.
On Thursday evening I attended the dress rehearsal of the Nutcracker at the Sydney Opera House. What a treat - this ballet is a fairy tale that comes to life. It would have to be the best christmas ballet ever made. There are roses, snowflakes, dreams and the Sugar plum fairy. It is a feast for the senses and allows ones imagination to take flight.
The music is melodious and lovely with brilliant orchestration of Tchaikovsky's musical score.
Clara is given a nutcracker doll by magician Drosselmeyer - this starts the magic rolling.
Lana Jones and Natasha Kusen deserve special mention for their performances in The Nutcracker. Their performances are danced with agility and perfect precision and were a pleasure to watch.
The style and themes of the dances change often as this fairy tale ballet comes to life.
Choreogpher Peter Wright has done a marvellous job with this production of The Nutcracker. Basically Sir Peter was happy to use the musical score exactly as Tchaikovsky wrote it.
Around midnight on Christmas Eve Clara sneaks down stairs and after a few mysterious adventures the Nutcracker doll turns into a handsome prince. He dances with her and and then they fly away to a magical world. She is shown the sun, moon dancers from many lands. She turns into the ballerina of her dreams - The Sugar Plum Fairy and dances again with her prince.
The Nutcracker is a real Christmas treat for all the family. Children will love it, no child can resist a real life fairy tale! So lots of little girls can dress up in their fairy dresses and join in the fantasy.
The nutcracker is on at our wonderful Opera House. A perfect venue for this ballet with wondrous views of our harbour and bridge.
Put this on your christmas list - it is a wondrous experience.
There are many eateries along the promenade that lead to the Opera House. So consider having a bite before the ballet and take advantage of the great views. The night light adds extra sparkle to this already sparkling event.
