The Victorian State Ballet and choreographer Michelle Cassar de Sierra bought the magic of a Christmas classic to life at Riverside Theatres, Tchaikovsky's magical tale, The Nutcracker.

One of the world's most beloved ballets, The Nutcracker, follows the story of Clara, who, on the eve of Christmas, is gifted a nutcracker doll at her family's Christmas party.



At the stroke of midnight, the nutcracker doll turns into a handsome prince and Clara ventures into the magical land of her nutcracker prince.

The staging was lavish, from the magic Edwardian family home with its oversized Christmas tree to the mystical world of snow. Some scenes showcased light humour, chaos, and Christmas joy, and we were taken around the world from Spanish to Arabian dances as each dancer showcased lightness of touch, elegance and superb technique.



The Victorian State Ballet perfectly executed this much-loved ballet and enchanted the audience with breathtaking scenes, including the famous Sugar Plum Fairy pas de deux and snow scenes. Every scene was masterfully held together and proved that it doesn't matter how many times you see this show, you will always be blown away.



Each dancer was mesmerising to watch and showcased passion, energy, and elegance as they took us on the enchanting journey of a young lady's dream with her nutcracker prince. Overall, the performance was a line of radiant energy, magic and beauty. It was packed with pristine technique, floating leaps and pillowy landings, making the entire performance an absolute delight to watch.
