Be whisked away to the land of sweets this festive season with the Nutcracker-inspired high tea at the Intercontinental Hotel. Set in the grand surrounds of the Cortile Lounge, the menu will feature delicate desserts and delicious savoury items.

The three tiers of indulgence have been designed to reflect Peter Wright's Nutcracker ballet performance currently showing at the Sydney Opera House and have been divided into Act One, Act Two and The Grand Finale.

Act One consists of ribbon sandwiches with festive flavours of turkey, cranberry and parsley; smoked salmon and salmon mousse; and cucumber, dill and crème fraiche.

Act Two sees warm fluffy buttermilk vanilla scones with clotted cream and luscious raspberry jam.

The Grand Finale is something special with baby pink delights that include a Sugar Plum Guava Fairy Floss Tartlet, a Vanilla Rose Ballerina Cupcake with Ruby Chocolate shoes, Clara's Berry Choux and a Raspberry Yuzu Cup. A lemon meringue macaron with a delicate ballet-themed design completes the showstoppers.

Making the menu creations even prettier is the serving of it all on Noritake fine bone china in pastel shades of pink, yellow and purple. The printed menu features a pair of ballet shoes on the front cover and small Nutcracker decorations adorn the tables. Adding further to the beauty of the light-filled dining area are displays of pink and white roses, making it all very Instagram-worthy.

Eric Menard, the hotel's head of pastry, is behind the menu with the inspiration coming from the main character (Clara) of the famous ballet story and her adventures on Christmas Eve. It's one sweet experience you won't want to miss.

Accompanying the food is a selection of aromatic hand-picked teas from La Maison Du The, along with coffee and a choice of a glass of Champagne, sparkling wine or non-alcoholic cocktail. Children are most welcome too with a petite version of the high tea for those up to age 12.

Running daily (11am-5pm) until 4 January, this choreographed culinary event will set you back $39 per child for the petite version and $79 per adult with sparkling wine or non-alcoholic cocktail. With a glass of Champagne, it is $89 per adult.

Note on Christmas Day, the high tea will be a 2hr seating with times from 11am-4pm. The cost is $49 per child, $99 per adult with bottomless sparkling wine and $149 per adult with bottomless French Champagne. Live entertainment is also included on this day. Bookings are required in advance.

You can reserve a table online or by telephoning 02 9253 9000.
