Where the "Vikings" stood, the Norseman Restaurant stands
In the late sixties, following the Vinland Saga, two Norwegian retraced the "Vikings" odyssey all the way to Canada, more precisely, L'Anse aux Meadows in Newfoundland. A thousand years ago, way before Columbus or Cartier, Leif Erikson and the Norseman, connected the eastern and the western worlds.

Named after those unusual visitors, The Norseman restaurant follows that same tradition, connecting the "old world" and the "new world" modern life with indigenous ingredients such as the wild berries, iceberg ice, the fish and seafood the "local people" have been enjoying for more than 5000 years.

The bright green building overlooking the bay provides a panoramic view to spot icebergs and whales or to simply enjoy the sunset. Newfoundland is known for its rough and windy climate but you'll be sure to find an inviting warm shelter as you step inside The Norseman restaurant.

Everything is made from scratch says owner Gina. Adrian, her husband and Chef, sources his ingredients from local farms and fishermen. When asked why they decided not to use processed food, Gina answered "why would I serve food I would not eat !" That says it all! This seasonal restaurant takes great pride in offering meals made with local and organic ingredients.

Yes, the Lobster season stops early July in Newfoundland but Adrian might still have fresh lobsters on the menu! Those guys are waiting for you in a crate still enjoying the bay's cool salty water. You can even go pick the one you want with the chef!

Another famous dish is the chowder, or, what about fresh local cod, scallops, shrimps, mussels and crab! Meat lovers and vegetarian also have their options. For those concerned, they offer gluten free, vegetarian and children meals, just ask your waitress.

With so much to choose from, the fish soup was a nice surprise, with homemade broth with bite size fish pieces, mussels, shrimps, vegetable In the middle, floating like a fishing boat, was a slice of home baked bread topped with hom made pistou. The sight was very inviting, the combination of aromas was delightful and the delicate taste was addictive.

Don't worry, you might not be able to try everything all at once but you can always come back, as some guest do! Whichever your choice is, it's prepared on the spot by Adrian and his team who are eager to take your taste buds for a ride and indulge your palate with local gems! Gina would help you pair your meal with a suggestion from their impressive wine list.

Appreciated by visitors from around the world, their menu accommodates all tastes and prices are very reasonable, especially considering the food quality.

Recognised as a fine dining restaurant, The Norseman offers exquisite food, worldwide wine selection, unique view, warm welcome, what else do you need but someone to share that special moment with.
