Hailing from a family business in The Redlands, Jon and wife Jamey have recently taken over The Nook on Boundary Road, Thornlands. They are still baking delicious pies that Gilser's are well-known for, as well as expanding into other lines and services.

Working long hours from 4.00am through to 6.00pm each day and opening the business seven days a week, Jon and Jamey are now offering essential food packs, which can be delivered FREE to your home in The Redlands, Brisbane City, Logan City, Ipswich, Jimboomba and Beaudesert. These packs start at $55.00 upwards and you can choose from a variety of grocery lines including dairy , bread, meat, fruit, vegetables (as well as frozen vegetables) and Gilser's pies . Dietary problems are not an issue - just tell Jamey exactly what you need and it will be on your doorstep before you know it. If you would prefer to collect your items, you can ring ahead so there is no waiting time. While there, do not forget to buy an espresso coffee to take-away, as I did when I visited, or pick up some sandwiches for lunch.

The Nook is a one-stop-shop with all the food items you would find at a major grocer, including packets of lollies and nuts for those peckish times at home with a refreshing drink.

There are picnic tables and chairs outside and also a seated high bar area if you have time to stop and eat your pie outside. Travellers and tourists are welcome to pop in as there is parking off the street and along the street in front of The Nook. Future expansions include a bakery house at the back where those famous and delicious pies will be made on-site, as well as a shaded grassed area where children can play. Having four children of their own, Jon and Jamey understand the importance of a child's desire to run around outside after a meal or while the adults talk.

2020 has been a challenging year with trying to purchase a full grocery order when shop shelves are empty, where at Gilser's you will know that Jamey, Jon and staff will go out of their way to make sure all your pantry stocks are filled without stress or worry. Three of the current staff were laid off from their previous jobs because of the Coronavirus, yet Jamey and Jon were able to give them work thus keeping family lives in the Redlands afloat. Forget the panic buying, The Nook has toilet paper and hand sanitiser as well.

Old fashioned service of your corner convenience store combined with a prioritisation of community spirit and customer focus, The Nook is the place to go for all your grocery needs, as well as ice and firewood.

Jon and Jamey have strong community values and recently donated boxes of healthy fresh food to approximately seventy-eight families who are doing it tough in this economic climate. This type of donation and community wellbeing does not stop with this one event; in the past, they have supported nursing homes, the elderly and sporting groups with an overwhelming generosity in helping others. They are thankful for those who have supported their business over the years and in doing so, are giving back to the community they love.

Upon leaving, after my chat with Jamey and Jon, I felt a buzz of inspiration and pleasure in meeting this down-to-earth couple, whose honesty and selflessness were providing the community with the gift of love and compassion.

The Nook is located at 123 Boundary Road, Thornlands. Check out their Facebook page where you will be up to date on new and exciting happenings at The Nook. Phone 07 3206 3366.
