Her Little Reapers is the second book in Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda’s graphic novel series
The Night Eaters . It is 272-pages long and was published by Abrams Books on 3 October 2023. The first book in the series,
She Eats the Night , was released in 2022 to critical acclaim. It has been four months since twins Milly and Billy discovered that their parents, Ipo and Keon, had been keeping secret from them that their family, the Tings, were not human. They were demons that lived in a supernatural world filled with violence, blood, magic, and gore.
Ever since discovering the truth, Milly and Billy have hounded their parents for more information about their powers, but Ipo and Keon haven’t told them anything more. The twins become so desperate for more information about demons, they try searching on the internet, but find nothing helpful. In their search for answers, Milly is visited by a faceless ghost with blood pouring from their mouth, who begs her for help. She claims to have been murdered but cannot remember by whom or what her name used to be. Milly and Billy decide to work together to help solve the murder and unmask a dangerous cult.
Her Little Reapers was a fantastic follow-up book to
She Eats the Night. I really liked how the plot progressed. Milly, Billy, Ipo and Keon all got character development and we got to learn more about the demon world and the creatures that inhabit it. I thought that the subplot involving the twins investigating a cult suspected of murdering a young girl and countless others was very entertaining. Takeda’s illustrations were pure nightmare fuel. The ghost of the murdered girl who haunts Milly is terrifying but also strangely beautiful as well.
The Night Eaters 2: Her Little Reapers was so much fun. I loved seeing Milly and Billy grow as characters and embrace the darkness within. This is a series that is begging to be adapted into TV or film. I have so much respect for Liu and Takeda as a creative team. I can’t wait to see how they bring the story of Milly and Billy to a satisfying conclusion in the third and final book in the series when it is released.
Summary: Milly and Billy struggle to come to terms with their new powers and the supernatural world that their family is a part of in
