The Art Gallery of SA has a great activity space for kids called the Studio. This is a free space in the Art Gallery for children, families, schools and art lovers of all ages that transforms with each new exhibition. The feature art exhibition, Treasure Ships opened on June 12th and is on display until August 30th, 2015. It has been five years in the making. The art exhibition is a ticketed event with an admission charge. It presents a visually detailed and fascinating exploration of the age of spices from the 16th to 19th centuries.

The new focus for the free Studio space is associated with the Treasure Ships Exhibition . The activity space has been designed for journeys on an ocean voyage to discover treasures from exotic places. Where pirates plunder and treasures are won and lost.

The early maritime explorers embarked on discovery voyages to explore the known and unknown frontiers of the world. They travelled to distant lands and discovered new people and cultures, creatures and plants, foods and customs.

The Navigator's Studio space has seafaring maps, boats, vessels and spices. Plus things to make and take home. Although the space is designed for little people, any age is welcome to explore and let their imagination run wild.

Activities include creating a map, a flag, a treasure chest, a botanical drawing or a creature from the deep. The Studio is open daily (may be in use by school groups on weekdays 10am - 3pm).
