Staged concurrently at the four venues, the 2023 edition is curated by Beatrice Gralton at the Art Gallery of New South Wales; Emily Rolfe at Campbelltown Arts Centre (C-A-C); Freja Carmichael and Aarna Fitzgerald Hanley at Carriageworks; and Jane Devery at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA Australia).Entry is FREE across all venues.
Featuring new commissions and recent works by an intergenerational and culturally diverse group of artists and collectives, The National 4
explores shared themes such as intergenerational learning and connectedness, language, narrative and the role of the artist in the 21st century.
Come along and discover a diverse range of mediums including painting, video, sculpture, installation, drawing and performance. Through an organic dialogue across institutions, this year's cohort of artists create space for reflection, listening and exchange, and tell the vibrant story of Australia's contemporary art landscape.
