The best winter warmer street food to go! Why had I not tried Mussel Pot mussels earlier?

The smell of coconut cream and chilli or white wine and parsley permeates through the seating area of the Prahran Market. With five delicious combination sauces, you may have trouble deciding which one to get - they all sound and smell so good!

I decided on the steamed mussels in chilli, coconut cream, tomato and parsley broth. I watched in curious interest as the chef quickly prepared four orders side by side, within a small space inside a travelling caravan.

In a few minutes, my steaming hot bowl was ready. A portion of mussels larger than what I had expected, in an easy to carry plastic bowl, with two slices of sourdough bread to soak up the broth. Unfortunately, there was no option to have gluten free bread, so the sourdough was enjoyed by my fellow diner while I used a mussel shell as a spoon, savouring the flavorful broth. The mussels were fresh, large, and steamed to perfection. The broth was light but rich and delicious as a soup on its own.

If you do not enjoy mussels steamed, Mussel Pot offers mussel chowder, grilled or baked mussels, and seafood pies too. You can eat there, or buy a take home pack of fresh mussels to cook at home.

This will certainly be a regular choice for my winter lunch at the Prahran Market, and the Queen Victoria Markets too!
