Sydney Film Festival
The third screening of the Sydney Film Festival at Casula Powerhouse will take place on Sunday 12th April, with a screening of The Moomins on the Riviera. Children and parents are invited to enjoy a family film experience in this unique venue in south western Sydney.
If you have not yet met The Moomins, allow me to introduce you. The Moomins are hippo-shaped animated characters from Finland. Created by Tove Jansson in the 1940's, The Moomins are superstars of books, a comic strip & film. They are popular in Finland, Sweden, the U.K and Japan. They even have their own theme park in Finland.
Described as carefree and adventurous the Moomins are celebrated as characters who embrace cross-cultural understanding and tolerance. Their stories include universal themes such as family and optimism and they are loved by many for demonstrating how to find joy in the small things of life.
In this feature film, using hand drawn animation, The Moomins experience high society during a trip to the glamorous Riviera. But not all of them are seduced by the lure of wealth in this superficial world.
The film is suitable for all ages and it is hoped that children and parents will enjoy the film together at the family-friendly time of 2pm on Sunday 12th April 2015. Tickets cost $15 for adults and $10 for children (16 and under) and can be purchased through the Casula Powerhouse website.
