The Moderns: European Designers In Sydney exhibition features amazing European design works in Sydney. As the exhibition includes works from designers, furniture makers and architects, the diversity and richness are simply captivating.

A number of European immigrant architects, interior designers and furniture makers escaped from World War II and settled in Sydney to start their new chapter of life. They worked in the 1930s to 1960s, contributing to the development of modernist design in Sydney. In the exhibition, I was impressed with their amazing works across different fields of design, bringing European forms of modernism.

What inspired me particularly were their stories of achievements and persistence - many designers re-adapted their skills across architecture, interior design, furniture making and the media by overcoming obstacles so that they could return to their chosen professions. Their resilience and passion have earned my respect.

Modernist Exhibition talks series will be from 2pm to 3.30pm on selected Sundays from September to November at the Museum of Sydney. Find out here for more details.

The exhibition closes 26 November 2017.
