The Modern Eatery can be found on High Street in Fremantle. It is a small restaurant that offers both indoor and outdoor seating.

I was, originally, introduced to this place a few months ago. At that time, I was impressed with the service and the quality of the food. I am, what most people have stated, a waste to a buffet. So, the smaller meal options were perfect for me.

Recently, I revisited this quaint little Japanese restaurant to evaluate if my first experience was as good as I remembered it to be. Although we made a booking for inside, we decided to opt for an outside table where we could feel a cool wind that took the edge off the heat.

Our experience started with a cold bottle of water, which was well-received. The day was particularly hot, however, the shade and wind had made it a perfect temperature.

The menu displayed a selection of dishes which included vegetarian options. Notably, this was the highlight to a few at the table.

We ordered a range of items from the menu which we felt we could share. In that way, you can taste an array of items without personally ordering all of them.

As a Pescatarian (a person who adds fish to their vegetarian diet), I ordered the salmon and avocado roll and creamy croquette. The rest of the table ordered the spicy tuna roll, Crunchy Salad, Bao Bae and Otaku Fries.

We were asked if the food could come out in stages. As we already had quite an adventure in the heat, we were quite happy to sit with the wind on our backs and enjoy a moment together.

The food arrived and we 'dived' into the selections. I was surprised to see how hungry I was. Maybe the 2 hours of walking and a skipped breakfast may have been the cause.

The part I enjoyed the most, although the food was out of this world, was the fact that we could use the plates provided and shared the items we ordered. This created a new topic of conversation as we compared notes on what was the best item from our order. Notably, we all had a different opinion but the creamy croquettes had received high accolades.

The Modern Eatery is open over lunch and dinner. It is recommended to book ahead on time. Notably, bookings are generally applied to inside tables, however, they sometimes book tables outside, if it is busy. Outside tables are required to pay for items before cooking. I can only suspect that some people have taken the chance to eat and run.

Overall, I walked away with high recommendations. It is one thing to have a good experience the first time. It is a completely different thing to experience the same quality of food, and service, the second time around. The Modern Eatery was able to do just that.
