Creamy, smooth lattes with a double shot of community spirit. The mission cafe in Prahran not only serves a mean cous cous and chickpea salad, but is giving individuals disadvantaged by mental illness an opportunity for social inclusion.
The open-plan space, with its whimsical graffiti-style wall art and mismatch furniture, feels almost like a family kitchen. Open from 7am weekdays and 8am Saturdays, The Mission Cafe offers a modern take on a variety of homestyle breakfast and lunch dishes, including an impressive Minute Steak Baguette with beetroot relish, aioli and rocket and what I'd rate some of the best fruit toast in Melbourne.
The coffee speaks for itself; smooth and sweet made by very skilled baristas. Whilst it is a little on the pricey side with a very small take-away cup setting you back almost $4, and an accompanying mini lemon tart at $5, your money is at least going towards more than just satisfying your taste buds - which it will do aptly as well!
The Mission Cafe is located at 211 Chapel Street, next to the Prahran Mission Uniting Care Opportunity Shop. Visit the website to find out more.
