Many of you might be familiar with CERES Environment Park - a hip and happening place located in the northern suburb of Brunswick East.

The name says it all. Located near Merri Creek, the park is more than just that. It is an urban farm, a sustainability hub, home to markets, a nursery and even a cafe.

Bike parking near the entrance

On a beautiful sunny day, you'll see many families wanting to expose their children to this environmentally friendly spot and organic food at The Merri Table.

Located right at the main entrance of the park, it will be hard to miss and is especially lively on weekends.

It's spacious inside or you can even take a seat outside in the sun amidst the green surroundings.

Outdoor dining

It was quite busy on the weekend - we booked a table in advance, but the staff were too busy to seat us. We even picked up our own menus as the service was a bit slow.

The Merri Table
Large Iced Coffee

The iced coffee ($4.50 large) was a bit bland with just coffee and ice and no cream or ice-cream, but I think it seemed suitable for the organic nature of the cafe. The coffee itself was still strong and refreshing but needed some sugar to make it tastier.

The menu has the three words everybody loves to hear - All Day Breakfast, as well as some light lunch options.

Blue corn tacos and grilled cornbread with zucchini

Many of my colleagues ordered the vegetarian blue corn tacos ($16), which were lovely but a small serving for the price. I often find vegetarian and organic dishes are a bit more pricey, and I also guess you get what you pay for - quality, clean food but smaller servings.

I ordered the grilled cornbread with zucchini in tomato sauce ($15), with some okara hash browns ($3) on the side. The dish was delicious with the crumbly bread and rich sauce, filling me right up.

The market stalls

The service might be a little slow and some of their food a bit expensive for what you get. However, the environment is lovely and you can make a day out of it with a walk through the park or visit to the markets.
