Having spent the last few years living abroad I now wish to rediscover my home city of Sydney to keep that 'travelling feeling' and share my findings with those that might want a bit of inspiration.
One Night Only
For a healthy dose of 'feel-good' nostalgia head to The Red Rattler in Marrickville on August 23rd 2013 and take a trip back through time to the 1930's through 70's by Sydney girl-group The Melodies! Grab your girls, get your lippie on and indulge in a night of hip-shaking, toe tapping nostalgic music love all starting from 7.30pm. Think Billie Holliday, Jonie Mitchell, Aretha Franklin ….. tunes from the likes of these sassy sisters will ensure that singing along will be addictive and your shoes will be made not only for walking but dancing too.
Vintage-glam girl-group The Melodies
The Melodies formed as a collaboration of girls whom met through performing at Sydney University; setting their sights on bringing their love of yesteryear and performance to the public in conjunction with this volunteer-run Marrickville venue.
For those of you who aren't familiar with The Red Ratter just head to Sydenham station; exit onto Sydenham road which will lead you to Faversham Street. You can't miss it. Part of the ticket price goes towards maintenance of the facilities as this is a community run venue so not only are you guaranteed a fantastic night of performance but also the benefit of knowing that you are supporting the local performance industry and community.
Book your ticket, grab your friends and shake off the winter blues shaking your hips to some good old-fashioned girl group tunes! Forget all the boy-bands of the moment; this one-night-only performance will reinstate your hidden love for girl groups and send your soul soaring.
