I can see this movie getting either a positive or negative review. The latter would probably take out their critical review sheet and as Matt Damon would say, 'Analyze the SH-- out of the movie!'
Of course I would fall in the former mostly because I love space, science and everything in between. Of course if you are a Matt Damon fan, you'll probably get a 'mother-ship' load of enjoyment.
The Martian is by far one of the better movies I have seen. In fact, I would quite easily see it again. It centres on an astronaut (Mark Watney played by Matt Damon) who is accidentally left for dead on Mars during an emergency evacuation. To everyone's shock they discover he is alive. The movie captures the torment, troubles and obstacles an astronaut would face if left on Mars with only enough food to last about 6 months, knowing the next planned trip to Mars would be in 4 years!
If you love all things S.T.E.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) then you will definitely get a kick out this movie. If not, you may find the 2.5 hours a little long.
So, if you are bordering on whether to see this movie, or not, and love all things Space (and STEM) then I am surprised you have not watched the movie already!
I do warn you though, given the latest information supplied by NASA, you may find yourself leaning towards criticising some sections, but with a quick jar of reality that this is a movie, you will soon settle in to enjoying the whole concept of movie: colonising Mars.
