The Market Shed on Holland has become one of the most successful markets in Adelaide in only a short time. Located on the southern edge of the city this trendy market has a strong focus on organic food, vegetarian, vegan and gluten free.
Every Sunday the Market Shed on Holland is abuzz, packed with people searching for that special something to take home. There is an amazing selection of produce on offer, from flowers to fruit, nuts to noodles, and most of it is organic food. It's one of the fun things to do in Adelaide on a Sunday, a highlight of my day.
Freedom of Choice; Vegan, Gluten Free or Organic Food
While the market stalls originally concentrated more on raw ingredients, there is now much more artisan food, tasty street eats, and loads of tempting treats. Large eating areas with comfortable seating encourage shoppers to stay a while and enjoy the bustling vibe. Mouth watering aromas waft past from nearby market stalls making a quick purchase a pleasure.
If you haven't been to the Market Shed on Holland yet, then you need to see what is probably the trendiest markets in Adelaide. And on Saturday May 30 there's another reason to check out these market stalls - the Market Shed Twilight Market.
The Twilight Market concept has become hugely popular for Adelaide market regulars, with the Adelaide Night Market being one of the first of the type. A few other markets in SA have also flirted with a twilight market but there are no others currently in Adelaide.
The Market Shed Twilight Market will be a unique concept though. Starting at midday on Saturday, the Market Shed Twilight Market will have all of the regular market stalls carrying your favourite organic food and goodies. By late afternoon most of the fresh food growers will go home to pick their produce for Sunday, and then the market shed will then open up to a vibrant and relaxed early evening atmosphere.
Adelaide's own chef Poh will be working with her sidekick Sara, making and serving up some delicious paella at the Jamface market stall. Poh will be chatting and sharing stories about her sensational "Poh & Co" TV show currently running on SBS.
The Amazing Flavour of Spanish Paella at the Market Shed
Cheese lovers will be keen to try Harts wines paired with the amazing local hand-made baked brie presented by Kris Lloyd from Woodside Cheese. For people with a sweeter tooth, how about the combination of organic/vegan wines showcased by Harts of the Barossa and Beach Organic's delicious vegan chocolate fondue?
Fritole by Ma and Me will be at the Twilight Market for the first time this year selling fluffy delicious balls of ricotta delights, a Croatian family favourite. James from Smooth Revolution returns for the Twilight Market, peddling (or is it pedalling?) tantalising organic coconut cocktails.
Bars will be open inside and outside at the Market Shed Twilight Market, serving local beer, wine and cider to thirsty visitors.
Enjoy Fabulous Food, Great Coffee, or a Glass of Wine
These markets in Adelaide CBD are enormously popular with families as well as couples, and there will be a kiddies corner with fun activities and Sophia doing face painting, entertainment and fun things to do for the little ones. For the bigger kids who want some face or body art, Linda will be there on her Henna Bike.
Free live entertainment is on offer from local talented musical performers all afternoon, including Maggie Rutjens who recently performed at Womad. Catch some of the highlights of the Adelaide Cabaret Fringe Festival, or have a quiet Saturday afternoon massage from Louise A'Bear.
The Twilight Market promises to be a unique day of fun things to do in Adelaide. Come along, do some shopping for organic food at the market stalls before settling in for a lazy evening of indulgence. If you're too full to walk when you leave, EcoCaddy will be waiting outside The Market Shed providing eco-friendly, short trip transport for $5 per person to anywhere in the city.
