Deep down we all have our guilty pleasures. Mine? Video games. Well, it's perhaps not buried that deep down, maybe as deep as my love for the Royal Melbourne Show or Cup Cakes. Luckily, nestled in the heart of Brunswick Street, North Fitzroy, sits The Mana Bar, a haven for someone like me, looking to quench my thirst and enjoy a little video gaming.
Open Every day of the week from 3pm till 11pm, The Mana Bar frequently hosts events geared toward the geek at heart, opening its doors to the masses for Wii Bowling competitions, Trivia nights and CosPlay events (imagine opening night of Harry Potter, now replace the wizard garb with Zombies, Vampires or Super Mario Bros.).
If dressing up in costume doesn't take your fancy, fear not, mosey on down and join a pickup jam session of everyone's favourite music game Guitar Hero. There are a multitude of video game's at your disposal, all of the current gaming hits are available to play and a selection of retro classics, all on wide screen TVs.
Drinks are a plenty too, though a visit to The Mana Bar cannot be complete without a cocktail. A litany of video game themed cocktails await but I recommend trying a Red vs Blue, a cocktail inspired by the Xbox hit game "Halo", it's sure to get your night off to a great start.
Drink prices are average, don't expect a cheap night if you like your cocktails (though you don't often find "cheap" cocktail bars). In any case, you'll be coming here for the experience.
Drinks aren't the only items on the menu. Like that game you've been playing at The Mana Bar? Kindly ask the bar staff and chances are you'll find it for sale.
It's hard not to have fun in a place like The Mana Bar. Friendly bar staff, friendly patrons even friendly bouncers (a refreshing change).
Sometimes you want to go, where everybody knows your game. The Mana Bar is that place.
