It's looking like a really good year for Lord of the Rings fans here in Adelaide. Earlier this year, cast member Sean Astin - who played Samwise Gamgee in the films - was here during Oz Comic Con, and later in December, we'll finally get to see Peter Jackson's adaptation of The Hobbit on the big screen.
Performed by the Adelaide Symphonic Orchestra and Young Adelaide Voices, the event will see the Adelaide Entertainment Centre transformed into a huge cinema. It's definitely a different kind of movie-going experience - the audience will be watching all three and a half hours of The Fellowship of the Ring's extended version in high definition, accompanied by the orchestra's live performance.
The main focus of course, will be on the Academy and Grammy Award winning score by Howard Shore. Don't worry about missing out on any of the dialogue, though. Because of the balance between both sound and visual, the film will be played with subtitles, as the music will occasionally drown out the sound on-screen.
Tickets can be purchased at Ticketek. There are a variety of seating options, with the cheapest for children marked at $59.90, and the most expensive premium seats going for $139.90.
For any hardcore fan of the film trilogy, this looks like a great way to revisit the movie, more than a decade after it first premiered. Who knows, maybe the concerts for The Two Towers and The Return of the King will spring up soon enough in Adelaide as well.
