Make The Loose Caboose your next stop
Next time you're heading out for breakfast or lunch in Adelaide, make The Loose Caboose your next stop. This charming, modern café has taken over the building which used to be the Bowden railway station. The colourful umbrellas welcome you to sit outside on the veranda to enjoy this beautiful, Adelaide Summer weather. If you'd prefer to sit indoors, the interior décor—complete with mixed and matched furniture—is the perfect juxtaposition of vintage but modern, and warehouse but classy.
Sitting at a table in the window, you look out the glass and see the still-in-use railway line, making you feel like you're just grabbing a bite to eat before being whisked away on an exciting journey by a fast train. The coffee is up there with some of the best coffee places around Adelaide and the presentation of the food, as well as the taste, is of the highest standard. If you want to stick to complimentary water, well it's readily available on tap for you to help yourself—you even get a choice between spring water and sparkling water.
For a list of meal choices you'll have to visit and see for yourself, but I can tell you that a selection from the varied breakfast menu is not to be missed. Once you've finished your main meal, there is an assortment of tempting desserts calling your name from behind the well-lit glass counter. Some gluten free treats are even available as well.
Convenience is also clearly a priority as parking spaces are available right out the front of the building and a wheelchair lift has also been put in place on the stairs, making it easily accessible for everyone. Just make sure you keep your eye on the hanging clock, as this café will export you to another time and place. This is definitely one train station you will find hard to leave.
