Nora Nieling is 11 years old when the police come to her house to take away her father, who has a murdered woman's corpse hidden in the basement of their family home. Decades later, Nora is a successful surgeon with a new surname and a new life free from her father's legacy.

The Locked Door is the latest exciting thriller by Frieda McFadden, author of The Housemaid . Her books are a bit of a guilty pleasure for me since they are violent and over the top, but also full of plot twists that keep me hooked. This book was no exception, and I read it within in a couple of days.

The plot reminded me of Truly Darkly Deeply , by Victoria Selman, in which the main character was also the daughter of a convicted serial killer, but Nora is a more active protagonist, who struggles more with her own dark urges. It's also a little reminiscent of Jeff Lindsay's Dexter series. I didn't think it was particularly deep or ground breaking, but it gave me what I want from a psychological thriller.

The Locked Door is a satisfying whodunnit that would make a good holiday read for those who enjoy a darker crime story.
