It seems macaron fever is sweeping across Melbourne this season. I happened to stumble upon The Little Royal French Macaron Specialists quite by accident the other day. This is where you can sample some of the best macarons in the city.
Proudly exhibiting its wares in the centre of Royal Arcade, The Little Royal has its à la folie macarons gleaming like little beacons, whispering to passers by to stop and sample their deliciousness.
The meringue biscuits are crisp on the outside and fragile to the touch, almost like eggshells. However, they are surprisingly fluffy and soft inside once you break though their delicate casings.
The salted caramel macaron has a rich and well rounded flavour that you could gobble by the handful. A vanilla and caramel macaron has a delightful surprise centre with thick, gooey caramel bursting out as you break it open. No artificial flavours are used in their production and the natural flavours shine through with every bite.
If that wasn't enough to get you out the door and on your way to Royal Arcade, The Little Royal Macarons are 100% vegetarian and 100% Gluten Free!
You may just want a coffee to compliment your dessert dalliance and The Little Royal will not disappoint on that front either. With every shot, delicious Genovese coffee snakes its way out of an impeccable Wega machine, creating that perfect golden crema every coffee connoisseur covets.
The Little Royal is a Caffe e Torta initiative. The team created the boutique kiosk as a unique space to be dedicated to the art of macaron and coffee marriage. I would say they have completed their goal and exceeded expectations.
These really are the best macarons I've tasted. Soft, tasty and divine. Upon eating a pistachio one immediately on purchase in the middle of the arcade I closed my eyes and had a "When Harry Met Sally" cafe moment (on the inside). These put a lot of other so-called macarons to shame. My daughter had a raspberry one and said it was delicious.
Ok. Here is my verdict. They are awesome.Go for it. These macarons are to die for. They are the best I have ever ever tasted. (I have tasted French macarons at famous Laduree in Paris.) I loved the flavors, the texture, the price ;) everything. Superb discovery and it's 10 mints walk from my office, so yes I'm definitely gonna be a regular customer.
I'm so glad you were as delighted by these macarons as I was!! I have to confess I have gone back at least 5 times now and usually end up scoffing them in the arcade also. They really do put all other macarons to shame don't they :)
