From the very first moment you introduce yourself to ' The Lass ' she'll be straight with you, and all she asks is for you to be straight with her. She may not be the sexiest or the most elegant bird in town but she has the best sense of humour and a lot of steel about her, being the oldest pub in Newcastle and all.

Built in 1877 and located on Railway Street in Wickham, The Lass claims to be the home of original music in Newcastle and with good reason. Each week some of the region's top musical acts take to the stage and there are always people willing to listen. The Owls are a Newcastle stoner rock band fresh from playing at the Fat As Butter Festival on Newcastle's foreshore and bassist Joe Bourke says "Playing at The Lass is like being at your grandmas - she lets you eat lollies and chill out to cartoons. Everyone is there for a good time."

If the original music isn't for you, there is also a jukebox with some classic gems to set the mood. So grab a reasonably priced beer and a famous 'Lass pie' (they have mains during the day) and play some pool or, if you can make your way through the crowd, head out the back where you will almost always find a familiar face lounging out on one of the outdoor couches or tucked away downing their hard-earned (or not so hard earned) under the stars in the beer garden.

The staff are seemingly always keen for a laugh and a bit of fun as long as you're respectful of the place and you're not souring anyone else's mood.

So with original music and Newcastle's best interests at heart, say hey to The Lass. She'll at least make ya laugh.
