Father Bob - the Larrikin Priest

Father Bob is a well known figure here in Melbourne. He is cheeky, has refused to be manipulated by authorities, and has earned the title of the Larrikin Priest. He is straight forward and says what he thinks. If you haven't heard of Father Bob then you must have been living in outer space.

Read the following promo from Penguin Books (© Penguin Books):

This is the life story of Father Bob Maguire - a rare behind-the-scenes look at the much-loved 'people's priest'.  The enigmatic champion of the down-and-out was shaped by a lonely childhood in poor circumstances, an early priesthood that collided with the upheaval of Vatican 11 and working with the army during the Vietnam War.  This is a lively portrait of the man behind the resilient social activist and popular media performer who refuses to be defeated by enforced retirement from the parish over which he presided for nearly forty years.

This is a wonderful opportunity not only to meet Father Bob but also to buy his book. This book signing will be a treat for the folk of the nearby foothills of the Dandenongs and visitors from elsewhere.

Your January diary must include a day out to the Hills. Wednesday 22 January at 2.00 pm will see Father Bob at Rainy Day Books, 1301 Mountain Highway, The Basin (telephone 9762 0862).

Visit Father Bob at Rainy Day Books (the best little bookshop in the Hills), situated at the foot of the Dandenongs at 1301 Mountain Highway and Forest Road, at the roundabout in The Basin.
