The Kiosk is an aptly-named kiosk on Newcastle Beach, just minutes from the Newcastle CBD. It is a handy location in between the city and the beach, so that locals can kick-start the day with a good coffee or a hot breakfast after a morning surf - with the water lapping just metres from the kiosk counter. As well as a range of healthy breakfast options on the menu , they also sell lunch-time wraps, burgers, fish and chips, health shakes and more. All of these breakfast and lunch options are enjoyed by tourists to the area, locals who go down for a swim and for people who are walking along the coastline walk, which twists and turns around the headlands and leads directly in front of the kiosk.

Our family discovered this little treasure on a recent trip to Newcastle, while we were driving around admiring the historical buildings in the city, the ornate façade of the Newcastle Ocean Baths and the alluring sights of the Newcastle coastline. We caught a glimpse of it as we drove by and thought there was no better place to soak up the city, than with breakfast with a view at .

You can enter the kiosk from Shortland Esplanade behind, or from either side along the coastal path. At the back of the kiosk there were a couple of brightly coloured bar tables and stools, to enjoy the winter sun or wait for any takeaways. After walking through a short tunnel, the front of the kiosk had a small number of metal tables, so you can enjoy your meal or coffee while watching the surfer's slice, twist and turn through the surf break.

The Kiosk opened in October 2017 and judging by the regulars who were at the counter by 8am, they have cemented themselves into the local beach scene. On our visit, we ordered a banana smoothie, coffee and a couple of breakfast rolls with egg, avocado and tomato relish for $8 each. After hearing our name being called, we went back up to the counter to pick them up. The menu was easy to choose from, the vibe was casual and the location couldn't get much better. Although it was a simple brekkie by the beach - it really did hit the spot on a cool spring morning at "Newy".

After your stop at The Kiosk, why not take the short walk up to the Newcastle Ocean Baths , which is a free ocean pool to swim in with an ornate façade, designed in 1922. Next to it is the family-friendly Canoe Pool, which provides a safe and shallow place to swim for toddlers. If you continue past the baths, there is also the historical Fort Scratchely and Nobby's Lighthouse , to take in the views all along the coastline.

The Newcastle coastline and city is fascinating to explore, however, if you need a rest stop, coffee, or a good breakfast to fill you up after a swim, ensure you check out The Kiosk at Newcastle Beach. It is just one of the many kiosks along the scenic Newcastle coastline to soak up the atmosphere and start your day with a splash!
