It was lunchtime and after skipping breakfast in favour of a yoga class, I was a tad bit hungry. Rushing out in search of food, it was recommended by a fellow yogi that I must try a great new restaurant up the road called The Kettle and Tin , located at 215 Given Terrace, Paddington. And so to The Kettle and Tin I went.

After struggling to find a car park, which is the way of the world at Paddington, I was greeted by a blue picket fence and once through the gate I found an old Queenslander turned restaurant. Then came the big decision, to sit inside or out. Outside had a relaxed urban feel, with a slight view of the city, where you can choose to sit at a high-stooled table or low set wooden picnic table in the shade of a large umbrella; whereas inside had a slightly different, almost modern chic feel - picture glossy wooden floors and white china. Feeling a little bit relaxed I opted for the outside option, and I am glad I did.

The lunch menu (11:30am – 3pm) is simple, with a select few but a good variety of dishes. You can order anything from gourmet sandwiches and salads to the market fish of the day. I ordered the recommended master stock chicken salad and what I was presented with was quite possibly the most delicious salad I have ever, ever, eaten in a Brisbane restaurant. From the tender piece of half chicken on a bed of greens right through to the salad dressing, it was perfection. The portion was not too big, not too small, but just right to leave me full and satisfied. In all honesty I could have licked my plate clean had I not been in public and I may have sucked on the chicken bones in a slightly bohemian manner (aren't I glad I sat outside?)


If lunch is not your thing, The Kettle and Tin also have a breakfast, dinner, dessert and drinks menu, which are all downloadable on their website. They are open 7 days a week from 7am, closing at 5pm on Monday and Tuesday, 9pm on Sundays and late on Wednesday through to Saturday. Talk about covering all your dining needs - how refreshing. Not to mention their friendly and attentive staff, who make you almost feel like your reuniting with an old friend, giving the restaurant an open and joyous atmosphere.

And it all comes as no surprise as the owners come from the very lovely The Ponycat Café in New Farm, with the chef being trained in French food (I knew those menus' were not of Australian origins). This restaurant knows how to wine and dine its customers with legitimately delicious food in a classy yet casual setting. So give The Kettle and Tin a try, for they seriously know what they're doing and it is definitely worth it.
