A trendy gastro pub with awesome food
Located in leafy North Adelaide, this trendy gastro pub on Stanley street is tucked away from the hustle and bustle. Don't let its secluded spot fool you though, as we discovered, it was packed full of hungry and thirsty guests.
The Kentish is situated in a historic building that has been fully refurbished. The atmosphere is fresh and friendly. There are three areas that you can dine in; the restaurant, the atrium and the beer garden, all of which are great choices. As it was a Friday night, the restaurant was booked out, so we sat in the newly renovated atrium, which was a large undercover area with a modern warehouse feel. It opened up to the beer garden, so it was really the best of indoor and outdoor elements.
As table service is only offered in the restaurant section, we ordered at the main bar, which was situated in the front corner. There were plenty of people at the bar, many of whom seemed to be regulars stopping in for a drink with friends after work.
The food, which was very reasonably priced impressed us so much that we decided there and then that this wouldn't be our last meal at the Kentish during our four day stay in North Adelaide. I was feeling adventurous, so I ordered the pork belly tacos, which were delicious. I loved the flavours of the pineapple salsa and coriander and the pork belly was cooked perfectly.
My husband ordered the beef burger, which he raved about and we ordered my son the fish and chips from the kids menu, and while he didn't he eat the fish, we certainly did! It was fried and the batter was so light and crunchy... In fact, everything we ordered was fantastic. The full menu can be found here.
The staff we dealt with were friendly and helpful, and most importantly the kids meal came out very quickly. Overall, we had a great experience at the Kentish and recommend you check it out sooner rather than later.
Nice photos and review. This pub has been "famous" amongst those in the know, for a very long time and it really does have a beautiful setting in an area that his hard to beat for a quiet meal and a leisurely stroll in a historic well maintained quarter of North Adelaide.Must drop in again sometime now that I have read your article.
Thanks Romina for the great review. The photos were awesome too. The family and I are definitely going to check out The Kentish. We knew it existed but knew nothing of the refurbishment. The meals looked great! Thanks.
