If you're in a mood for authentic Nepalese or Indian flavours, head to The Kathmandu Cottage in West Melbourne. They have separate menus for lunch, dinner and banquet, offering a wide range vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. They also serve a decent selection of wines.

Depending upon your palatability, the chefs will happily adjust your food to mild, medium or hot flavours. The decor is understated and the service is attentive. The food is good and reasonably priced. The dining room can comfortably accommodate up to 80 people.

The restaurant is open for lunch from Tuesday to Friday between 11:30am - 2:30pm, while dinner is available from Tuesday to Sunday starting 5.30pm till late. For bookings contact (03) 9329 3960.

Catmandoo tandoori sizzler ($16.50) - assortment of tandoori dishes (lamb cutlet, seekh kebab, tandoori chicken and chicken tikka) on hot sizzler served with salad and chutney

Lamb shanks ($14.25) - Succulent lamb shanks prepared in fresh herbs, spices, Nepalese meat masala and fresh curry leaves

Veggie korma ($13.50) - Mixed vegetables cooked in cashew nut sauce and cream

Machha curry ($16.00) - Nepalese-style fish curry cooked with onion-based sauce, mustard seeds and herbs

Seafood noodle ($18.50) - Rice noodle with prawn, fish and calamari wok toasted with ginger, garlic & oyster sauce.
