The K2 – TV Series Review

Produced in 2016, The K2 was a Korean drama that shoot South Korean actor, Ji Chang Wook into international fame. The K2 is about a former mercenary soldier (played by Ji Chang Wook) while working in Iraq, who was betrayed and framed for the murder of his lover Raniya, a local civilian. The storyline also includes political intrigue, parental abuse, sadness, terror, retaliation, love and more, all of which are intricately woven together.

Written by scriptwriter Jang Hyuk-rin, and directed by Kwak Jung-hwan, The K2 is a combination of action drama and romance. Its immersive storytelling, combined with a gorgeous romance between Kim Je-ha (played by Ji Chang Wook) and Go An-na (played by South Korean actress Im Yoon-ah), will keep you hooked right up until the very end.

While on the run as a fugitive, Kim Je-ha returned to South Korea and by chance was offered work as a bodyguard by Choi Yoo-jin, the owner of JSS Security Company and wife of presidential candidate Jang Se-joon. He accepts the job in exchange for the resources that he needs to get his revenge on another presidential candidate, Park Kwan-soo, who previously ordered Raniya's killing. Je-ha is assigned to guard Go An-na, the hidden daughter of Jang Se-joon whose life is always threatened because of Yoo-jin, her stepmother.

Go An-na slowly fall in love with Kim Je-ha, causing Kim Je-ha to be torn between having to work with his boss, Yoo-jin, to enable him to take revenge on Park Kwan-soo and protecting his newfound love, An-na, against the wishes of Yoo-jin.

The K2 was the first K-drama to utilize time slice photography used in The Matrix movie. For this TV series, Ji Chang Wook did all the action stunts himself without a body double. The action series involves a lot of fight scenes which are choreographed using a system of Russian combat martial art, Japanese martial art aikido, Korean self-defence martial art taekwondo, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Some scenes of the drama, primarily in episodes 1 and 2, were filmed in Catalonia, followed by various places in Barcelona, among other locations in Spain and the rest of the series was filmed in Korea.

You can watch The K2 on streaming platforms such as Netflix, but also can be watched for FREE on YouTube . If you like action K-drama intertwined with a love story, Descendants of the Sun is also worth to watch.
