There is a growing movement which is seeing people return to using their hands to create things. This is being referred to as the "maker movement" and is made up of people who simply make things - from engineers to designers, craftspeople, electronics, artists and more. is a place where you can see "making" in action and appreciate the creativity, innovation and skill that's involved.
was originally located in an historic old jam factory on Payneham Road in St Peters before moving to the current Morphett Street building in Adelaide's West End Arts Precinct.
has four gallery spaces and four fully equipped studios in ceramics, glass, furniture and metal. The glass studio features a viewing platform where visitors can watch the entire process involved in making glass products. The kids will be transfixed as they watch the blowpipe being dipped into the molten glass, seeing it being rolled onto the marver, holding their breath as the craftsperson blows air into the pipe and marvelling at the end product. It is truly engaging and will make them appreciate the skill involved in traditional methods of making things.
Visitors can also wander around the building to see the other studios and artists at work before heading down to the gallery to view and be inspired by the beautiful pieces on display.
