The Irish Theatre Players are an amateur theatre group which specialises in staging the acclaimed works of the greatest Irish playwrights for Australian theatre-goers.For over thirty years, the Irish Theatre Players have brought the celebrated works of J.M. Synge, Brendan Behan, Hugh Leonard, J.B. Keane, Martin McDonagh, W.B. Yeats, James Joyce and Samuel Beckett and many others to life. This July, the Irish Theatre Players invite you to experience one of Brian Friel's most memorable works, "Lovers (Winners : Losers)", a two-part tale of love, laughter and loss.
[BREAK]While Winners has hues of Romeo and Juliet with a twist, Losers tells the amusing tale of an unhappy marriage as only Friel could envision! Like many of the great Irish playwrights, Friel engages his audience with subtle (and sometimes not so subtle!) social commentary, innuendo and Irish humour conveying what life was really like and how we 'mortals' coped in an authoritative, Catholic-dominated Ireland of 1966.
